Elections for the European Parliament first took place in 1979 and happened every five years until 2019. From 1979 to 1989 our area returned a single member representing the county of Suffolk, elected by FPTP. In 1994 the constituency was enlarged to become Suffolk and South West Norfolk, returning a single member by FPTP. From 1999 to 2019 candidates stood to represent the East of England, elected using PR via party lists.
