NEC Elections 2020 – additional candidate statement received by the CLP.
This candidate has received enough nominations to be included on the final ballot.
I am standing to represent the grassroots of our party. I want to ensure that CLPs have the right representation at the highest levels of our Labour Party. I was born into a working-class family in Newham, East London. My mother was an NHS nurse and my stepfather worked at Fords of Dagenham. Their support ensured I was the first in my family to go to university (Leeds University).
Currently, I am the London borough of Newham’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services, which includes Audit and Governance, and a Governor of two outstanding schools in the capacity of Chair and Chair of the Finance Committee.
Members need an elected NEC ready to support the leadership and get a Labour Government. The NEC needs to be focused on improving internal governance processes, especially the complaints system, which needs to be fair, robust, and independent with regard to all forms of discrimination.
