Comrades / Friends,
To win power, Labour must provide democratic socialist solutions for all, especially now given the Covid pandemic and the economic and environmental crises that the country is facing. These issues makes our socialism more relevant than ever. Now is not the time for the party to retreat from our democratic socialist principles and as your NEC candidate, I know we must fight to ensure that we as a party remain committed to the radical social change required to address the real needs of people, particularly developing on from our last manifesto.
Achieving this agenda will mean deepening our party democracy, empowering our members by giving them more of say in how we run our party. For me, Labour’s members are our greatest asset. We are the trade unionists organising in our workplaces, the campaigners, organising in our communities, and the party activists, talking to the people on the doorsteps.
The Labour Party needs to trust the membership more as on issues such as the economy, public services, immigration policy, foreign policy and the climate emergency, Labour members have been proven repeatedly right in their views. Members are the most connected to our communities and we want a vision of society that puts people before profit.
This is why I am standing as an NEC candidate to fight for a NEC that will give members more power over issues such as campaigning, policy and the direction of the party. Key decisions shouldn’t be made by a few individuals in a committee room or in a zoom meeting but should be made by the sovereign decision-making body, of our party: Conference. We cannot allow any stifling or shutting down of our voices.
Therefore, please consider nominating me to be your voice on the NEC. Labour can only win if it’s a party of its members and our members must have strong voices; if we want an end to austerity, unemployment, and the destruction of our planet.
Please do consider nominating the Grassroots Voice Team: Nadia Jama, Yasmine Dar, Ann Henderson, Mish Rahman, Gemma Bolton and Laura Pidcock.
